Events & Workshops

Below are a variety of different workshops and events we are available to teach and host. If you’d like the doctors at Active Life Project to host one of our workshops at your facility, please contact us directly to discuss the details.

Address the Stress

Most of us associate high stress levels with the typical things – high blood pressure, anxiety, heart attacks, and stroke. In fact, many of the leading causes of death in this country can be linked to constant stress. While these might be the most well-known side effects, stress can also be the culprit behind a lot of other things including infertility, chronic constipation, inability to lose weight, blood sugar dysregulation, depression, poor memory, and even increased bodily pain. So, how do you know if constant low-level stress is making you sick? And what should you do about it? This workshop is designed to answer those questions and more.

We’ll discuss why you have a stress response, how it affects your body, how stress spirals out of control, and, of course, what we can do to fix it.

Appropriate for all ages, group sizes.

TIME: 1-3 hours

Eat Real Food

“Well, if (insert body part here) didn’t hurt, I would finally be able to exercise and lose some weight.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that – in fact, I heard it twice already today and it’s not even noon. Exercise IS amazing and the benefits should not be overlooked (strength, confidence, cardiovascular health, community). However, the idea that exercise is the best way to lose weight is a little misguided. There is a reason the saying, “Abs are made in the kitchen,” exists. What you put in your mouth (or don’t) plays a much bigger role than exercise when it comes to the number on the scale. But with so much conflicting information out there regarding diet, where do you start? This workshop is designed to answer that question.

We will discuss some of the common diet myths that are sabotaging our success and how we can get started on a path to better health.

Understanding and Mastering Your Breathing For Health and Wellness

We all know what happens if we stop breathing entirely – it generally doesn’t turn out well to say the least. But what about when our breathing is not as great as it could be – what happens then? The consequences of dysfunctional breathing run the gamut but can include poor core stability, back pain, tight neck and shoulders, brain fog, digestive distress, immune dysfunction, poor healing, pain, and fatigue.

This workshop will teach you how to assess your own breathing and give you some simple exercises and tips to improve it.

3D Core Stability for Athletes

The difference between average and elite in sports is often determined by an athlete’s ability to generate force in multiple planes. While many athletes actively train this, too many miss a key component that could take their game to the next level – stability. When actively addressing stability in all three planes, you can help to minimize the risk of injury and maximize the generation of force. Stability training makes you stronger…faster.

This workshop will show you how to identify cracks in your stability and how to fix them.

WHO IS THIS FOR:
Athletes of any age or ability.
Small groups of (10-20).

The Truth About Stretching and Why It Might Be Setting You Up For Injury

Coaches, fitness professionals, and gym teachers have been barking at us for years to stretch more. So much so that it has become almost a universal belief that stretching is a necessary part of life. If you ask anyone why stretching is necessary, they’ll tell you if you don’t, you might pull a muscle or you won’t be able to throw (serve, swing, punch, kick) as hard or you’ll feel too tight. But is any of that true? Not really. The idea that you need to stretch a tight muscle to relax it is incorrect. It sounds good but your body doesn’t work that way.

This workshop is designed to help you understand why muscles get tight and what you can do to regain your mobility – hint – it’s not stretching.

The Shoulder Fix

An active lifestyle often puts significant stress on our shoulders. Whether you do CrossFit, play tennis, or just like to throw a ball around with the kids, virtually every workout we do demands strength, mobility and stability from our shoulders. Finding a balance between all of these important aspects is imperative in maintaining healthy and happy shoulders. Many of us have explored the ways to add strength and gain mobility in the shoulders but find ourselves still suffering with pinching and range of motion restriction. That’s where this workshop comes in.

We will explore some simple assessment strategies and corrective exercises to get you the happy, healthy shoulders you’ve always wanted.

Back Pain Basics

Have you been suffering with back pain for days, weeks, months, or even years? Is it preventing you from being active and enjoying life? Contrary to popular belief, back pain can improve if you know what to do.

This workshop will help you identify what is causing your pain and give you some tools to start you on your path towards healing.

Topics covered include bulges and herniations, sciatic pain, back surgery, what’s really causing your back pain, ways to improve it, and simple preventative strategies to keep it away.

Injury Prevention Workshop

The research on treatment and prevention of injury has advanced significantly in the past couple decades but it hasn’t yet reached the masses. On a daily basis, I see athletes in my office with injuries that are 100% preventable. If only they knew what they should have been doing (or not doing) to make themselves more resistant to injury.

This workshop will discuss the most common injuries affecting athletes, why they occur and what you can do to prevent them.

Athletes of any age or ability.

Holiday Detox

There’s no denying it – the holidays are tough on your body. It only comes once a year and the food and drink are hard to resist. Stuffing, pies, cookies, casseroles, and egg nog, while delicious, can wreak havoc on your health and your waistline. Wouldn’t it be great if you could undo the damage come January?

Well, this year, you can and you WILL, if you join Dr. Kelli in a 21 day holiday detox. In three short weeks, you will learn how to take back control of your diet and your life.

The program consists of a 3 week diet reboot, where we eliminate all of the junk that’s keeping us from reaching our health and fitness goals. That means no grains, no dairy, no sugar (real or fake), no processed or refined foods, no alcohol, and no nuts or seeds. By eliminating these inflammation-causing, gut-disrupting foods, you can regain control of your metabolism, energy levels, and health.

Appropriate for all ages, group sizes.

TIME:
Approximately 1 hour initial meeting with a 1 hour follow-up at 3 weeks. Regular check-ins inside the private Facebook group throughout the challenge.

Low back pain, naggy knees, poor shoulder mobility, chronic tightness, plateaus in performance — these are all so common. Despite what you may have heard, there is often something you can do about them. Dr. Kelli specializes in hunting down and correcting weak links in the chain to correct these issues, reduce or eliminate your pain, and take your performance to the next level. Do not be content to just rest and hope for the best. Dr. Kelli can help.

Dr. Kelli is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, Active Release Technique provider, and eligible for her Diplomate in Functional Neurology. She is certified in Neurokinetic Therapy, Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex Technique, and FAKTR-PM. She has completed hundreds of hours in supplemental education in soft tissue mobilization, nutrition, kinesiotaping, and extremity adjusting.

Dr. Kelli’s passion lies in helping people get back to doing what they love as quickly as possible. While her favorite thing to treat is pain with movement, she recognizes that there is more to health and wellness than just being able to move well.

This workshop series is a product of that realization. Many of her patients have questions on other aspects of health – nutrition, stress, injury prevention, performance – and googling it is giving them nothing but contradictory and confusing information. She developed this workshop series to fill that need. Being strong, healthy, and happy is multifactorial and these workshops are designed to address that with easy to understand information and approachable solutions that work.
